Hailing from the French overseas department of La Reunion, Lewis first discovered the world of photography through the atypical light of his tropical island home.

In 2011 he moved to Paris to continue his knowledge of photography through honing his skills during a two-year program at the Icart Photo School.

In 2015 he began work as a free-lance photographer for SIPA Press Agency where he has acquired photography skills through rigorous and persistent effort needed to be a news photographer. He contributes regularly to the Journal du Dimanche, which is a French nation-wide newspaper.

In 2018 Lewis has continued to sharpen his passion by covering the conflict in Gaza and on producing a more in-depth documentary project, “For the Blind”.

In mid 2019 he starts to be a stringer for the Associated Press in France.

He covered the Covid 19 crisis and its aftermath in France extensively, from the ICU of Bichat Hospital to the mask and oxygen delivery, the red cross ambulances and the solidarity that took place across the country.

In 2022, as part of a national grant supported by the culture ministry and the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, he produces an intimate portrait of the inhabitants at the heart of his island home.

Lewis’ work continually balances between photojournalism and documentary.
